益人生宇宙,有生必有死。火有死電就不稟。欲安康,陰陽皆朕;敬得平安,主者火。有房廊以遮雨露,死者須有墳台以避風霜,庶幾陰安陽泰而了心願,斯為之心道,古今皆朕。是以陰陽二宅,斷不可無。如稍有損壞,須隨時修理,不可疏忽。陰者得安,陽者自得禀電。但聖經有云:陰地莫如心地,尚須從善施培補為要。
現代白話翻譯:
人活在宇宙之間,有生就必定有死。
無論生死,都不可忽略根本。想要平安康泰,陰宅(墳墓)與陽宅(住宅)同樣重要;恭敬維護就能獲得平安,這是為人主者應盡的責任。
活人要有房屋廊簷來遮風擋雨,死者也必須有墳台來避風霜,這樣才能讓陰間安寧、陽間順泰,了卻心願。這是古今相同的道理。
因此,陰宅與陽宅絕對不可缺少。如果稍有損壞,就必須隨時修理,不可疏忽。讓亡者得到安息,生者自然也會得到庇佑。
但聖經上說:「陰地不如心地」,所以更重要的是要行善積德、培植福報,這才是根本。
People live between heaven and earth in the universe; where there is birth/life, there must be death. In matters of both life and death, one must not neglect the root/fundamental. If one desires peace and good health, the yin dwelling (tomb) and yang dwelling (house) are equally important; if one reverently maintains them, one can obtain peace and safety — this is the responsibility that the master/owner ought to fulfill.
The living must have houses with corridors and eaves to shelter from wind and rain; the dead must also have a tomb platform to avoid wind and frost. Only in this way can the yin realm be peaceful and the yang realm be harmonious, thereby fulfilling one’s heartfelt wishes. This is the same principle from ancient times to the present.
Therefore, the yin and yang dwellings must absolutely not be without [maintenance]. If there is even slight damage, it must be repaired at any time and must not be neglected. When the deceased obtain peace and rest, the living will naturally receive protection and blessings.
However, the Holy Scripture says: “A yin site (burial ground) is not as good as a good heart/mind.” Therefore, what is even more important is to practice good deeds, accumulate virtue, and cultivate blessings and fortune — this is the true root/foundation.
凡人富貴貧賤窮通,壽夭雖大半乃由天定,而小半亦在心力。持善者轉禍為福,作惡者定見敗亡,未有不顯報應。嚴子抵叨以來,數十餘載,竟乃竭力經營,奉神無欺。茲幸叨蒙庇蔭,福壽平安。緣於民國十三年,謹膺吉日,在本族公司山內修築墳台壹所。惟冀我後裔,心等仰體遵行,是為序。

現代白話翻譯:
世上的人無論富貴貧賤、窮困通達,壽命長短雖然大半由上天決定,但還有一小半取決於自己的心力和行為。
行善的人能轉禍為福,作惡的人必定走向敗亡,從來沒有不顯現果報的。
自從嚴子(或嚴氏子孫)抵達此地以來,數十餘年,我竭盡全力經營,侍奉神明從不欺瞞。
如今幸蒙神明庇佑,全家福壽平安。
因此在民國十三年(1924年),選擇吉日,在本族公司山內修建了一座墳台。
只希望我的後代子孫,都能用心體會並遵照奉行,特此作序。

All people, whether noble or humble, rich or poor, whether in adversity or prosperity, although the length of their lives — long or short — is mostly determined by Heaven, a small portion nevertheless also depends on one’s own heart-effort and conduct.
Those who uphold goodness can turn misfortune into fortune; those who do evil will certainly meet with defeat and destruction. There has never been a case where retribution does not manifest clearly.
Since I arrived here, for several tens of years and more, I have exerted all my strength in managing affairs, serving the gods without any deception.
Now, fortunately, I have received the gods’ protection and blessings, and the whole family enjoys fortune, longevity, peace, and safety.
Therefore, in the 13th year of the Republic of China (1924), on an auspicious day that I respectfully selected, within the mountain land of our clan’s company,
I built one tomb platform. I only hope that my descendants in later generations
will wholeheartedly understand and respectfully follow these instructions. This is written as a preface.

Biography
王水斗,福建漳州詔安縣人,15歲來到新加坡。曾為陳嘉庚做過人力車夫,以賣鳳梨發跡,成為富商,後擔任新加坡中華總商會第14屆行政委員會(1923-1924)委員(圖1)。除籌資修建後港斗母宮(圖2)外,他還曾指導1919年梧槽大伯公廟(Goh Chor Tua Pek Kong Temple)的重修,籌資修建龜嶼大伯公廟(Tua Pek Kong Temple),亦參與過順天宮(Soon Thian Keing)重修,其墓地位於今武吉布朗墳場(Bukit Brown Cemetery)。
