Mr Soh Beng Lim, Chief Clerk of the law firm of Messrs Braddell Brothers, has retired after 36 years' service. Born in Singapore in 1881, Mr Beng Lim received his education at Raffles Institution.
He left school in 1900, he was then 19, and in Oct of the same year he joined Messrs Braddell Brothers as a typist.
From that position he rose to be Chief Clerk, which post he held for more than 10 years prior to his retirement. Although retired, he has the use of a table in the office of the firm.
Mr Beng Lim's father, the late Mr Soh Hong Soon, was a straits born Hokien Chinese and was a well known merchant in his day
Mr Beng Lim has a son Mr Soh Cheng Kiat, who is the sole proprietor of the Raio Electrical Co, 28 Orchard Road, and a daughter, Miss Nonnie Soh, who is secretary of the same firm.
His adopted son , Mr Lee Choon Quee (Lee Choon Kwee) is a barrister at law and an assistant in Braddell Brothers

Mr Lee Choon Kwee, a teacher in the Anglo Chinese School, Singapore, until last Aug, when at the age of 25, he went to England in pursuance of a decision to abandon teaching for a legal career, ha passed his second term examination at the Middle Temple. The subjects were Roman Law and Constitutional Law. An old Anglo Chinese School boy, he is the son of Mr Soh Beng Lim, of the clerical staff of Braddell Bros

He was on board ss Tien Kuang together with Tan Sim Boh. On 14 Feb 1942, 11 am while ss Tien Kuang was lying at anchor about 200 years off the island of Pom Pom a squadron of about 9 Japanese bombers flew towards the ship. When the bombing started Sq/Ldr Faarwell ordered them to jump overboard and swam for the island
He was not seen again

Celebrated at 10 am today was the marriage of Miss Nonnie Soh, daughter of Mr and Mrs Soh Beng Lim, and Mr Cheong Eng Han, son of Dr and Mrs Cheong Chee Hai, both of Singapore.
The bride, who was given away by her father, chose a classic gown of heavy white taffetas made with a square neck and long tight fitting sleeves. Her full skirt flared from a trim waistline. She wore a veil of white embroidered tulle with silver flowers defining each corner, caught by a semi circle of orange blossoms. Her bouquet was of white gladiolia
