Note : Sim Boon Cheng was the daughter of Sim Siang Kiat instead of son as noted in her obituary. Her father died when she was just a few months old. 


Based on newspapers archives , he was a badminton player from 1930 to 1931 


In 1935, Sim Siang Kiat appeared in a farewell group photograph for W. N. Hamilton, the Singapore District Manager of the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI). The image places Sim among NAAFI’s multiethnic local staff and associates in colonial Singapore, although the surviving caption does not identify his particular role in the organisation.


NAAFI was a British government-created organisation, established in 1920 and trading from 1921, to provide welfare, retail, catering and recreation services for British armed-forces personnel and their families. Its practical business included canteens, mess and club catering, shops, refreshment rooms and recreational facilities at places where British troops were stationed
