Heap Guan San
Yeo Beng Teck funeral procession at Heap Guan San circa March 1959
Heap Guan San

### A Brief History of the Fujian Yeo Clan Association and Heap Guan San
The Fujian Yeo Clan organized the “Si Zhi Tang” (Hall of Four Knowings) in 1910, which has now existed for ninety-five years. Earlier, in 1882, the Fujian Yeo ancestral cemetery—Heap Guan San—was established, and it has stood for more than ninety years.
Heap Guan San, the ancestral ground of the Fujian Yeo clan, is located at Silat Men, about three and a half miles along Singapore’s west coast. Its history was recorded by Mr. Yeo Fengshan in *A Historical Sketch of the Fujian Yeo Ancestral Mountain—Heap Guan San*. An excerpt from his writing provides valuable insight:
> “At Silat Men (Telok Blangah Road), about three and a half miles along Singapore’s west coast, lie three scenic hills occupying 105 *ikats* of land. This is Heap Guan San. In 1882, Elder Yeo Fengtai and his wife, Madam Chen Yuhe, vowed on their deathbed to dedicate all three hills to serve as the ancestral ground of the Fujian Yeo clan.
>
> Distinguished members of the clan were appointed as trustees. Among those who served were the late Yeo Zhaosheng, Yeo Fuhe, and Yeo Liusi. Later, following the sudden death of trustee Yeo Jixing from heart disease on November 8, 1955, the trusteeship temporarily passed into the hands of an outsider, Mr. Shen Jinfu.
>
> On April 12, 1956, considering that Heap Guan San rightfully belonged to the Yeo clan, Mr. Shen nominated Mr. Yeo Tianlu as co-trustee. On August 8, 1957, due to age and frailty, Mr. Shen voluntarily retired. With Mr. Yeo Tianlu’s consent, Mr. Yeo Chengquan was appointed as a trustee. In 1961, Mr. Yeo Tianlu resigned due to business commitments, and Mr. Yeo Congrui succeeded him as trustee.”
From this account, we understand both the location and the historical significance of Heap Guan San.
The current trustees of Heap Guan San are Mr. Yeo Chengquan and Mr. Yeo Congrui. In 1967, the site was acquired by the government, but four *ikats* of land were preserved for the future construction of a clan ancestral hall.
Today, the Fujian Yeo Clan Association is planning to establish scholarships to encourage the younger generation to pursue education.
The association’s mission is to strengthen kinship ties, promote welfare, and uphold the spirit of mutual assistance. All Fujian Yeo clan members residing in Singapore—male or female, aged eighteen and above, and of good character—are eligible to apply for membership. At present, the association has more than 300 members.
