Lim Kee Keok
Mr. Lim from Xinan County in Minnan, was born into poverty. At sixteen, he came to Singapore with his elder brother Kee Bian.. He worked as a laborer at Ruimei Store for two years. With his savings, he opened Ruixing Rice and Grocery Store. After ten years, he used the profits to establish Zhenruicheng Company, dealing in wholesale rice. He also opened Ruifa and Bajiu stores simultaneously, and successively established over ten branch stores in Seremban, Batu Pahat, Yong Peng, and other places.
In agriculture, he owned rubber plantations of 500-600 mu and coconut plantations of over 100 mu. In real estate, he owned 30-40 houses. In corporate business, he held large shares in Lihua and Huashang banks. His business success was truly admirable.
He was honest, trustworthy, and unassuming. He knew how to accumulate and spend money wisely. He donated 1,000 dollars to the Singapore Nan'an Association, 500 dollars to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, 2,000 dollars to the Nanyang Overseas Chinese Middle School, several hundred dollars to Daonan School, 500 dollars to Aixin School, 1,000 dollars to Nan'an Shixi School, and various amounts to Singapore Tongji Hospital and Xingya School. These are just examples of his numerous charitable acts.
He is now 67 years old. His father was Jin Keng, and his mother was from the Lee family. His wife was from the Yap family. He had seven sons and one daughter, with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The "Zhongsi" chapter of the "Book of Songs" could be recited for him.
As one of the pioneers of Nam Ann Association, Lim Kee Keok name can be seen at the plaque for restoration for Hong San See at Mohd Sultan
