Youxun is from Dapu, Guangdong. He emigrated to Johor. At age 21, aspiring to study medicine, he first entered an English school. After graduating from middle school, he transferred to Nanyang Overseas Chinese Middle School in the 9th year of the Republic of China era (1922). Naturally courteous, whenever tasked with doing something for others, he was able to devote himself fully. The whole school respected and loved him. Diligent in study with a profound thinker, he was especially insightful in the sciences and was the top student in his class. Every early morning and after lunch, he sat alone in the classroom, burying his head in books, persisting tirelessly without a break. Even if his classmates advised him to rest a bit, he brushed it off with a smile, his time was so precious he had no leisure to chat. He served as the organizer of the school's English Speech Contest, manager of a company, and chief English editor of the weekly publication.
