Tan Sim Boh was a famous lawyer in the 1930s and was involved in many court cases for his clients. He was also a Municipal Commissioner. He died in 1942 Feb 14 during the Japanese air raid on the ship HMS Tien Kwang (Tien
Kuang) he was at that time near PomPong Island. Tan Sim Boh road is named after Tan Teng Niah son Tan Sim Boh.

Biography of Tan Teng Niah from Nanyang Personalities
**Mr. Tan Teng Niah (陳東嶺君)**
Mr. Tan Teng Niah, courtesy name Xiusong (秀松), ancestral home in Siming County, Fujian Province. His father was Bangben (邦本), and his mother was from the Wu family (吳氏). His father had long been engaged in trade in Singapore (星洲) of Nanyang, therefore Mr. Tan had resided in Singapore since childhood.
He was gentle by nature and treated people with harmony. He was diligent, careful, and frugal in his business. For several years, his fortunes rose and fell unpredictably. By the age of twenty-nine, his business acumen gradually refined and became sophisticated. He then invested in the porcelain business and enjoyed great profits. However, he remained frugal in his personal life. He was content with simple vegetarian food and worn clothing, accepting them as natural.
As for matters of benevolence and charity, he would readily donate large sums without the slightest hesitation or regret. Observing his contributions to disasters in the homeland, the 1911 Revolution (Xinhai Restoration), and various overseas Chinese charitable endeavors—whether initiated by him or supported by him—this becomes even more evident.
Soon, he gained universal acclaim from near and far. The community thus elected him as:
- President (總理) of Chongzheng School (崇正學校)
- President of Chongben Girls' School (崇本女校)
- Vice-President (協理) of Chinese Girls' School (中華女學校)
- Vice-President of Nanyang Overseas Chinese Middle School (南洋華中學校)
- Vice-President of Fujian Association (福建會館)
- Chief President of Shuntian Temple (順天宮)
When others held such positions, there were often failures and suspicions. However, Mr. Tan was dedicated without contention, sociable without factionalism. All matters were conducted according to proper principles and public pathways. Who would not respect him?
He is currently fifty-nine years old, with a youthful face and white hair, vigorous and spirited as in his younger years. He married Madam Teo (張氏), and they had eight sons, all elegant and distinguished, with bright and spirited eyes. Some pursued Chinese studies, others Western learning. In the future, each will distinguish themselves, contributing to the nation and society. What an exceptional family, upon whom the nation can rely!
His second son, Sim Boh (森茂), was particularly outstanding. In the autumn of the 8th Year of the Republic of China (1919), he went to study in London (英京), specializing in law at King's College (欽吻哩大學). It is said that in June of this year, he achieved the highest honors in his examinations.

陳君東嶺,字秀松, 祖籍閩思明縣. 父邦本,母吳氏,父素服賈於南洋星洲. 君故自幼居於星洲, 性毣匕,待人以和.操業勤謹且儉樸. 以贏廢書.凡數年，起躓不常.年既廿九，揣摩漸精.商術亦富.乃投資以營瓷器.享大利，然自奉儉約.蔬食敝衣，安之若素，至於仁民惠物之事，動捐巨帑，不稍靳惜.觀於祖國災祲，辛亥光復等輸.將及華僑諸善舉，不為君所發起,便為君所贊成,益可知矣.己而遐邇同譽,眾遂推為崇正學校總理及崇本女校總理,中華女學校協理,南洋華僑中學校協理,若福建會館協理及順天宮正總理二席.在他人居之,固多隕越.而生嫌疑.君乃務而不爭,羣而不黨.凡事俱歸納於正軌公塗.夫誰敢不敬邪.現年五十九、童顏鶴髮，矍如壯年時.配張氏 (Madam Teo)，子八人皆清標奕奕.目睒匕有神。或攻中文或就西學，將來各嶄然頭角，為國家，造社會，一門精華，國民有賴哉。次男森茂(Sim Boh) 尤秀發，民國八年秋留學英京,在欽吻哩大學專攻法律科,聞本年六月考列最優等云.
